Do we need to buy uniform before the first meeting?

You do not need uniform for the first few meetings.  You will need a uniform in time for your investiture (when you make your Promise).  Your Section Leader will let you know when that will be.  The Group will provide a neckie (sometimes called a neckerchief or scarf)

 

 

What are the dates for the terms?

Our financial year runs from September to August and our terms are September -December, January to March and April to August. Sections put their meeting dates for term on OSM under Programme.

 

 

When do you offer new places and move Members up to the next Section?

Section moves take place and any spaces are offered three times a year: September, January and April.

The age ranges for each section are:

I have a child on the Waiting List – how long will it be before we are offered a place?

It is not possible to estimate how long it will take for a place to become available.  There are over 130 children on the Waiting Lst and we allocate spaces for each age group as they become available based on the date of joining the list.  There is a single list for the whole group.  It is not possible to let people know their position on the list as it changes as children move up to the next age group.  We will be in touch when you are being offered a space. Priority places are offered to adult volunteers who take out a formal appointment as new volunteers maintain and increase our capacity for Members. 

 

 

What does my child need on their first night?

Your Section Leader will email before your first night with instructions.  You do not need uniform for the first few meetings.  Many children bring a water bottle.  You will need a uniform in time for your investiture (when you make your Promise).  Your Section Leader will let you know when that will be.  The Group will provide a neckie.

 

 

How do I record emergency contact details and medical information for my child?

We keep all personal information on Online Scout Manager. https://www.onlinescoutmanager.co.uk/login.php.  Please log in, update and confirm all Personal Details at the beginning of each term.  Your Section Leader should send you a link. 

 

 

Where can I get uniform?

Sometimes we have second-hand uniform available.  Ask your Section Leader or try posting on the Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/groups/FirstMilngavieScouts. If you want to buy a new uniform it is available at Glasgow Scout Shop https://www.glasgowscoutshop.com/ or the Scout Store https://shop.scouts.org.uk/

 

What type and size of uniform do I need?

Each section has a different uniform.   Blue sweater for Beavers, Green sweater for Cubs, Teal shirt for Scouts, khaki shirt for Explorers. Remember to get the right one - the online and stores will have it listed.    

 

It may be a good idea to have your child try on a few different sized shirts at the Glasgow Scout Shop, from a friend or even at one of the scouting sessions.   Your child may be wearing this for several years so we advise to buy big.

What is an investiture and what is the Promise?

An Investiture is a ceremony where someone makes their Promise, is welcomed to their Section and the Group and becomes a member the worldwide Scout family.

What is a Section and what is the Group?
